Esports research
The research and educational institutions of the Center of Expertise in Esports in Central Finland are active in esports research activities.
The research promotes the growth of the esports industry and emerges the new knowledge in cooperation with the business sector.
We emphasize research initiatives, for example in coaching, performance measurement, and business. Active collaboration with stakeholders from various fields as well as other research and educational institutions enables multidisciplinary development work also in Central Finland.

The esports research database maintained by the University of Jyväskylä compiles articles, theses, and dissertations related to the field that have been produced in Finnish higher education institutions.

JYU researchers Kalle Pasanen and Matti Leppäniemi conducted a systematic literature review on esports spectating.

The Effects of HIIT on Esports Performance
Sport Physiologist Kia Pakarinen researched the acute effects of high-intensity physical performance on physiological stress responses and the performance of an esports athlete in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
JYU
At the University of Jyväskylä, extensive research related to esports and digital gaming is conducted. The project results in the creation of a research database that gathers national esports expertise, as well as a handbook focusing on the development of esports business. These measures respond to the needs of the business sector.
Jamk
Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences focuses on developing esports coaching expertise and education, as well as business development. Jamk provides an optimal operating environment for research work. In recent years, collaboration has been carried out, for example, with various disciplines of JYU, KIHU and the Air Force Academy.
KIHU
Electronic sports has been recognized as high-performance sports, whereby the Finnish Institute of High Performance Sport KIHU plays a key role in producing new knowledge and developing esports players and experts. As part of the RDI project activities, KIHU models a testing and expert concept suitable for esports.

In spring 2025, research measurements will be conducted at GamePit Pro to analyze how different forms of physical warm-up impact aiming performance in FPS games, using the data collected.

Ideas for e-football from the InnoFlash course
The InnoFlash week gathered Jamk students for an esports-themed assignment. Eight teams prepared a total of 24 concepts aimed at engaging new interested members to join football clubs through e-football.

The opening of the new gaming space, located next to the youth café, was celebrated in Joutsa on Thursday, February 13. The new gaming space is a significant addition to the development of youth services and the gaming community in Joutsa.
