Greetings from Peliviikko!
Peliviikko, The National Game Week is an annual theme week held in November, focused on the gaming industry and game education in Finland. During the Game Week, several events took place in Jyväskylä — Jamk University of Applied Sciences was also involved in various gaming and esports actions.
Esport Nexus Jyväskylä
The campus area of University of Jyväskylä was filled with gaming and esports enthusiasts on November 6th–7th 2024, as the industry professionals from both the commercial and academic fields gathered at Seminaarinmäki for Esport Nexus Jyväskylä.
During the two-day event, participants enjoyed a range of interesting keynotes and sessions focusing on both esports research and reaching the commercial audiences. Organized in collaboration with the University of Jyväskylä, the event also served as an interdisciplinary meeting point for those interested in gaming and esports, including potential future professionals. The goal for Esport Nexus is to continue annually as an expert event that promotes Central Finland as an attractive esports region.
ENCE Institutional showdown
On Wednesday, November 6th, the Institutional Showdown student tournament’s Counter-Strike 2 championship took place in Jyväskylä. The live tournament was held in the GamePit Pro gaming facility, at the main campus of Jamk. The tournament featured four teams from different educational institutions – this year, the student teams represented Jamk University of Applied Sciences, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, AhlmanEdu from Tampere, and Kuninkaantie High School from Espoo. The tournament was also hosted and streamed on ENCE Esports’ Twitch channel. The whole live stream was produced and broadcast directly from Jamk Digi Center, located also in the Main Campus.
Jamkin Betoni successfully defended their Institutional Showdown championship title and snatched the victory trophy again this year. KAMK secured the silver, while Kuninkaantie High School, participating in the tournament for the first time, battled their way to the bronze medal. GGWP!
Lan events and family days
During the Peliviikko, our CoEsports network partners organized various events fitting the themes of gaming and esports. The annual Mini Jessembly LAN event, hosted by the Jyväskylä Esport Association, attracted up to sixty gaming enthusiasts to Jyväskylä for the weekend. The event, located at GamePit Pro gaming facility in Jamk Main Campus, included a series of different esports tournaments; in addition to well-known titles like Counter-Strike and League of Legends, Pro Pilkki 2 was also a notable competitive game. Besides community gaming, the weekend featured a special guest talk from Game Makers of Finland.
EXEN Esports also hosted a Game Day event for enthusiasts of all ages, bringing excitement to the gaming space at Seppälänkangas on Saturday, November 9th. Game Day was part of the Future Factory project between Jamk and EXEN, where the students aim to address a development challenge posed by the event organizer, contributing fresh ideas and perspectives. The project’s final outcome includes EXEN’s event guide—a concrete handbook that will serve as a lasting part of future event processes.
The free of charge and open-to-all Game Day featured not only casual gaming but also Fall Guys and Fortnite tournaments for players of all ages, as well as VR and e-rally simulator experiences. Following the family-friendly Game Day, the space also hosted the LAN final of the CS2 tournament, where Stars of Europe faced off against EK Wellamo.
A warm thank you to everyone who participated in Peliviikko events. We also want to thank our stakeholder representatives —see you again next November!
