Project

Gaming Skills for Studies

Project description

Among students, challenges related to mental well-being, motivation, and academic progress—such as difficulties with concentration, self-awareness, and loneliness—are increasingly common. These issues can lead to delayed studies or even dropping out. At the same time, digital gaming is very popular among young people and offers a sense of community.

The project aims to strengthen students’ well-being, social inclusion, and academic progress through digital gaming.

The goal is to combine mental skills training with gaming themes and to develop communal meeting places. The project will also produce recommendations for competitive gaming students regarding their studies and expand staff competence on the pedagogical potential of digital gaming.

The target groups are secondary and higher education students in Central Finland who face academic difficulties or loneliness, as well as competitive gamers seeking support in balancing studies and training. Additionally, teaching, guidance, and well-being staff, along with student health professionals, are included; their training will increase game literacy and prepare them to address issues related to loneliness.

The project is coordinated by JAMK University of Applied Sciences and is co-funded by the European Union.
